Social Learning Courses
Unlike traditional social skills training, Spectrum Resources of North Carolina offers "social learning courses" for families. These courses give both parents and children weekly opportunities to work with autism specialists to target specific social and communication needs and to lay the foundation for continued skill building and individual success.
Spectrum Resources' social learning courses are composed of six, one hour, Saturday sessions. Children work with an autism specialist in a small group setting.
At the same time, parents work with an additional autism
specialist to gather information about autism spectrum disorders, weekly focus activities and best practice strategies that can be used at home or school.
Spectrum Resources offers
parents a curriculum binder with guided practice activities and current research articles.
Spectrum Resources also offers
parents a "Strategies for Success" summary that can be shared with family, educators or other caregivers supporting their child.
Spectrum Resources'
social learning courses are designed to meet the needs of students with High-Functioning Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome who have some conversational skills and are interested in developing peer relations.
